On Thursday October 26, Monica Rincon did the improbable and won two matches to get to the San Andreas League Semifinals on Monday at Jurupa Hills High School. It has never been done before by any Indian Springs High School Tennis player, male or female. At Day 2 of the league finals Maricela made Indian Springs proud!
In her semifinal match, Maricela Rincon had a tremendous battle with her semifinal opponent from Rim of the World, whom eventually went on to win the League Title. The match played out with two tie breakers 5-7 and 9-7, with Maricela getting into a bit of a jam in the third set that she ultimately couldn’t work her way out of. Maricela dropped the third set by a score of 4-6. She played a tremendous match with the Rim of the World player complimenting her after the match with the kind words, “You are an amazing player”.
In the match for third place she found herself competing against a familiar foe in the Arroyo Valley player. Maricela was victorious against her in her two regular season matches. The first set was not too kind to Maricela and she dropped the set 2-6 and came back in the second set winning 6-4. The third set seemed to bring out the best in Ms. Rincon and she turned it on and gained more and more confidence with every point and ultimately taking third place in the San Andreas League with a commanding 6-0 final set.
Maricela has qualified for CIF Tennis Individual tournament as an alternate and will possibly be competing on November 20th at the Claremont Club in Claremont, CA.
Go Maricela! Go Coyotes!
