It is my hope that you are all doing well, had a good week, and you will have a restful weekend!
As of last week we have been given the green light to begin athletic conditioning once again.
As of Wednesday, early afternoon, we have been given the green light to have our purple tier sports prepare for competition as well as turn in an event safety plan that needs to be approved so we can have competitions moving forward.
This means we are headed in the right direction and are back on track to compete. Please share this information with your students because I know with circumstances being what they are, a lot of folks are still either hesitant or won’t believe it until they see it, which has been the case in regards to students committing to coming out to play sports.
Purple Tier Sports that are cleared to compete are as follows:
Boys and GIrls Cross Country – In season
Boys and Girls Track and Field – Spring, but practice starting
Boys and Girls Tennis – Spring, but practices starting
Boys and Girls Swimming – Spring, but practices starting.
As with all that has occured with COVID, this is a big step but we have to realize that moving into further sports tiers will be done so with the utmost caution from our Superintendent and Board of Education.
Today, the State CDPH in conjunction with the governor’s office have announced to the media that we are close to bringing back youth and high school sports if certain criteria is met. This is a YUUGE..I mean HUGE step forward for our students and I am truly excited to see their spirits brighten up by being back!
Quick version on how to get cleared for your students that ask:
1. Get a sports physical from a doctor.
2. Complete athletic profile on www.athleticclearance.com
3. Upload all requested documents into www.athleticclearance.com profile.
4. Contact Mr. Norton our athletic trainer via email at Zachary.NortonMartinez@sbcusd.
k12.ca.us when completed or if you have questions in regards to clearing. He will verify information and make sure all is good to go before sending out a clearance confirmation email.
