This school year has been anything but normal and that has made athletics even more tedious. 56 weeks ago on a rainy Thursday, March the 12th, in the Den we saw our last contest on Indian Springs Campus. At that point in the Spring season, the Coyote Athletic teams were in position to bring home five of the 8 league championships at stake. The possibility for Boys and Girls Track, Baseball, Boys Tennis, and Boys Volleyball championships slipped away as we closed our schools down for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
One year and one day later we held our first athletic contest on Indian Springs’ campus. That was the Mountain Valley League Cross Country Preview race that was in a time trial format that set the table for today. This format helped to match up those teams that would vie for a league title based on competitive times as well as teams that had enough athletes to have a scoring race.
Today, the Lady Coyotes, led by Junior Julie Chipres’ second place overall finish, beat the Rubidoux Lady Falcons by a very narrow margin, 27 – 28. In cross country, the lower scores win. Also, in the boys race, led by Coyote Senior Francisco Romero’s second place overall finish beat the San Bernardino Cardinal Boys in convincing fashion by a score of 24 – 35.
With these results, the Coyote Girls and Boys Cross Country teams make it a clean sweep of the team titles at the Mountain Valley League Cross Country Finals held at Indian Springs High School. The girls winning their first league title and the boys securing back to back championships.
It is great to see our athletes competing again! We are very proud of our Coyote runners.
